Dualchas Sunart Heritage Group

About Dualchas

Dualchas is the name of the Sunart Heritage Group, part of the Sunart Community Company.

Meaning “heritage” in Gaelic, the group was established in January 2022 with the aim of preserving, protecting and celebrating the heritage of the Sunart region.

One of our key objectives is to create a permanent site where our heritage can be stored and exhibited. This will be freely available to the community, visitors to the area and other heritage groups across Scotland, ensuring its continuation for generations to come.

Community Asset Transfer Confirmed

After nearly three years of hard work, we are delighted to confirm that the transfer of ownership of Strontian Parish Church to Sunart Community Company is now complete.

Thanks to support from the Scottish Land Fund and the Sunart Community Benefit Fund, this iconic building will remain at the heart of our community. It will continue to host Sunday worship while also being transformed into a heritage hub with an archive and exhibition space, as well as a small function room suitable for local events. Read more.

Community Support

The most recent community survey showed strong backing for a Heritage Centre in Sunart to house and interpret the Sunart Archive and to provide a focal point for those interested in local history and culture.

We are working closely with local historians as well as the current keeper of the Sunart Archives to ensure this history is preserved and shared.
